[Narrator] Neck pain
with mobility deficits

2
00:00:03,380 –> 00:00:05,490
or cervical spondylosis.

3
00:00:05,490 –> 00:00:08,960
The patient typically
reports unilateral neck pain

4
00:00:08,960 –> 00:00:12,600
and possible referred pain
into the upper extremity.

5
00:00:12,600 –> 00:00:16,280
The pain usually limits active
and passive range of motion

6
00:00:17,240 –> 00:00:20,780
and is associated with
findings of limited mobility

7
00:00:20,780 –> 00:00:22,573
on accessory motion testing.

8
00:00:23,470 –> 00:00:25,930
This is usually proceeded
by an awkward movement

9
00:00:25,930 –> 00:00:28,593
or awkward posture causing the symptoms.

ICD10

723.1 Cervicalgia

History

    • Potentially younger individuals (age<50 years)
    • Minor neck resulting from an unguarded or awkward movement or position

Reported findings

    • Acute neck pain (duration<12 weeks)
    • Symptoms isolated to the neck
    • Unilateral neck pain commonly with to scapula and shoulder

Examination findings

    • Restricted cervical range of motion
    • Pain noticed at end ranges of neck motions, such a rotation to the left or to the right
    • Manual of the involved cervical segment(s) using unilateral posterior-to-anterior pressures reproduces the patient’s reported pain

Risk factors for the development of

    • Co-existing low back pain
    • Age >40 years old
    • Long history of neck pain
    • Bicycling as a regular activity
    • Loss of strength in the hands
    • Worrisome attitude
    • Poor quality of life
    • Less vitality as predisposing factors
